humansofnewyork:Neat moment at the Webbys last night. Fresh off the $1.1 billion sale of his company, David Karp was there with his mother, Barbara. Though I’d never met her before, Barbara came over to my seat and gave me the world’s biggest hug. She kept saying: “I am so, so proud of you.”
I said to David: “Your mom just made me feel like the most special guy in the world.”

We were so fortunate that room 306, right next door, is also haunted; in fact, the most “active room” in the Hotel Montevista. Once featured on Unsolved Mysteries, people often see an old woman sitting and rocking in this chair, looking out the window. Or else, they report seeing the chair rock while no one is sitting in it. We didn’t try the Ouija board in here, and when I asked my two friends who stayed here if they saw anything, they both laughed and said neither one of them could bring themselves to look at it once they turned out the lights.

The window of our room 305, where two ladies of the night were thrown after being killed in 1940. This room is said to make visitors very uneasy, especially the men that stay there. They often report waking with a feeling of being suffocated or watched.

Dirk slept like a rock. No uneasiness experienced by anyone. However, the Ouija board totally worked in this room. No really. It did.

This last weekend, in conjunction with hiking in Flagstaff, my friends and I stayed in a long-reputed haunted hotel that was built in the 20s. We took snacks and drinks and a 60 year old Ouija board.

This has been on my bucket list for a long time. So fun, I would absolutely do it again. I hear there is one in Phoenix, in fact :)

I went to Flagstaff last weekend with Dirk, Alex, and Gulliver. We hiked for 5 miles when my little guy began limping and curled up under a tree, refusing to walk any further. I gathered him up and found blisters had worn on each one of his paw pads. I walk him all the time for long distances, but the terain was much rougher there. :((( So we transferred everything from one back pack to the other and put G into mine. We took turns carrying him back 5 miles. I was sad and felt guilty. But man- it made for some pretty adorable photos. He’s all better now.
